CAHP and CMAF Release Obesity
Provider Toolkits
On March 25th, CAHP and the CMA Foundation launched a set of three different provider tool kits on obesity – adult, pediatric and pre-/post-bariatric surgery. In the works for two years, these tool kits mark an unprecedented partnership with the CMA to develop guidelines and educational information for providers that represent the best clinical information from the perspective of health plans, the medical community and public health. Developed with the consultation of a 60-member expert panel, health plans contributed significantly to the development of these tool kits. Following Tuesday's press event, hard copies of the tool kits will be mailed to health plan CEOs and medical directors. The tool kits will also be available electronically through the CAHP website and the CMA Foundation website. CAHP and the CMA Foundation have developed an extensive distribution list to ensure the tool kits reach providers throughout California. While the tool kits will primarily available electronically in order to make them widely available, we encourage health plans to distribute electronic versions of the kits to their provider networks.

The California Association of Health Plans (CAHP) is a statewide trade association representing 40 full-service health care plans. Through legislative advocacy, education, and collaboration with other member organizations, CAHP works to sustain a strong environment in which our member plans can provide access to products that offer choice and flexibility to the more than 21 million Californians they serve.
We do this by:
- Advocating for the interests of health plans and their members on legislative and regulatory issues.
- Educating policy makers, opinion leaders and regulators on the implications of policy concepts, and proposals.
- Promoting collaborative efforts among health plans, providers, purchasers, brokers, other health care associations and others to assert policy toward the provision of high quality, affordable, and accessible health care.
- Informing the media and the public about our philosophy and the benefits health plans provide.
- Asserting a strong political presence in the state Capitol.
- Promoting opportunities and forums for plan members to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss critical issues affecting the industry, and improve industry effectiveness.
