Committees

The California Association of Health Plans has three standing committees that meet regularly to develop policy for the Association, share information regarding new regulations and legislation, and work on emerging industry issues with other interested organizations. Below is a description of each committee, its membership, and its role in CAHP.

Legal and Regulatory Affairs Committee
The California Association of Health Plans’ Legal and Regulatory Affairs Committee meets quarterly to discuss legal and regulatory issues of concern to the CAHP membership, work on legal problems, and develop recommendations on regulatory and legal issues. The committee is comprised of the legal counsel (in-house and retained counsel) for CAHP member plans as well as regulatory compliance personnel. Special presentations by staff from the Department of Managed Health Care, Department of Health Services and health care consultants are also highlighted.

State Program Committee
The CAHP State Program Committee identifies and prioritizes both near and long-term issues for CAHP engagement in regard to state-sponsored lines of business. The Committee also develops CAHP positions and strategies on these issues as appropriate. The Committee meets in-person three times a year and is comprised of operational leaders and government affairs staff from our member health plans. In-person meetings frequently include presentations by staff from the California Department of Health Services and the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board.

Public Relations Committee
To develop the CAHP public relations strategy, the Public Relations Committee meets to discuss cooperative public relations and communications efforts, media and public affairs activities and strategies, and updates on legislative and policy activity taking place in Sacramento. Additionally, the committee works to develop and distribute informational materials related to legislative and policy issues impacting our industry. The committee also collaborates its communications efforts with the industry to educate the public and opinion leaders on managed care and other health care or health system issues. Public relations and media relations personnel of CAHP member plans comprise the committee that convenes biweekly, via conference call.
